What is an orthopedic boot?
An orthopedic boot is a medical device that protects your foot, ankle or shin following a fracture, sprain or operation. The orthopedic boot will immobilize the fragile area, it is used in place of a cast and is often even more recommended in some cases. Less disabling, the orthopedic boot allows you to walk and maintains your injury without pain or risk of complications. An orthopedic boot is an orthosis with many advantages, including the ability to restore your mobility more quickly.
What are the advantages of wearing an orthopedic boot?
Wearing an orthopedic boot rather than a cast has many advantages. When an injury is cast, the limb is completely immobilized, the area stiffens, muscle is lost and joints can deteriorate. Casts can also cause skin reactions, pressure sores, edema and other circulatory problems such as blood clots. The primary advantages of orthopedic boots are that they are removable, that you can fix them to suit your mobility needs, and that there is no risk of complications. Immobilizing the injury is all very well, but what your body needs above all to heal is stability. The orthopedic boot has a non-slip outsole and shock-absorbing foam inside. It gives you all the stability you need, and you can even continue to walk and live normally. Because you continue your activities, your recovery will be faster and you’ll walk normally again, faster when you remove the orthopedic boot than if you were removing a cast.
